Shopify Plus - Industrial B2B commerce, wired to SAP B1

An Australian industrial-equipment supplier was folding five legacy brand websites into a single trade store and going B2B-first on Shopify Plus. The platform needed customisation the theme couldn't give it - company accounts, per-catalogue pricing driven live from their SAP ERP, carton quantities, login-gated trade pricing - and the managing director wanted growth he could see. One engagement covers both: the platform engineering and the search programme on top of it.

What the chore really is

B2B commerce on Shopify Plus is nothing like retail. A trade customer logs in and expects their prices - theirs, from the pricing agreement in the ERP, not a public list. They buy in cartons, not eaches. And behind the storefront sits SAP Business One holding the truth about every account, catalogue and payment term, so the store is only ever as correct as its connection to the ERP. That connection is the real build: get it right and your trade customers order online at their own prices, around the clock, without ringing the counter.

Consolidating five brand websites into one store is a search opportunity too: five domains' worth of authority and product range pulling in a single direction, on a platform built to rank for it.

How I built it

The platform work first. Shopify Plus customised properly for trade: company accounts, per-catalogue pricing flowing from SAP Business One through a middleware connector, carton and quantity rules, login-gated trade pricing and the checkout logic to match. Then the part that keeps Shopify Plus and SAP synced - a nightly reconciliation worker, rebuilt after a silent-failure post-mortem, that checks pricing and account tags against the ERP every night without human babysitting. An integration that was correct on launch day is not the same thing as an integration that stays correct.

The growth programme

With the platform trustworthy, the growth work had something to stand on. A same-day competitive keyword analysis mapped roughly 75,000 monthly searches of demand to products the business already stocks - thousands of terms with a real category page waiting, no ranking to show for it. That became the programme: buyer's guides with interactive calculators, category and brand pages built against measured demand, and the five legacy brand domains migrated into the one store so their authority pulls in the same direction.

The commercial team prices with data now, too: a competitor price-intelligence tool they use daily for pricing and range decisions.

The result the MD can see: organic search up 35% year on year on a store rebuilt from the ground up, organic new users up 71%, measured in the client's own Google Analytics on a like-for-like 28-day window.

Where it stands

Live and trading: ~1,250 products and 15,000+ SKUs under one B2B pricing model, real trade customers ordering at their own prices, the nightly worker reconciling on its own, and the growth programme compounding. The platform's data integrity is now audited, not assumed - which is the difference between a store you launched and a store you trust.

Method

SAP Business One → APPSeCONNECT middleware → Shopify Plus B2B (bespoke catalogues, pricing, carton rules, checkout) + Cloudflare Workers nightly reconciliation → buyer's-guide content with interactive calculators + DataForSEO-led SEO and domain migrations.

If this looks familiar

If your trade store and your ERP are drifting apart, or your platform investment isn't showing up in organic search, we should speak.
